Aqua Virginia Attempts Defense Of Rate Hike

In defense of the company’s proposed rate hike, Aqua Virginia President John Albach says residents need to pay more, partly because the water system wasn’t maintained by the previous owners.

Those previous owners sold to Aqua Virginia in 2003, and Albach says the company has made several improvements since then; most of which, he says, are underground.

The State Corporation Commission has a hearing planned for April 2018 to discuss the rates, but Aqua Virginia can impose an interim rate hike starting in February.
