A local Hurricane Florence relief effort is well underway in Charlottesville – the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Toy Lift Charities have teamed up to transport three tractor trailers of food and supplies to victims of the storm in North Carolina communities.
Tom Powell from Toy Lift Charities:
POWELL: “We’ve already filled up three pallets of water and different dry goods and put them on the truck – we’re working on three other ones right at the moment. The truck will hold twenty-four pallets, total – we’re stacking them as high as we can and if we fill up all three trucks faster than Monday, then we’ll try and leave sooner.”
Members from the Charlottesville area community are being asked to drop off items at local collection sites and to lend a helping hand:
POWELL: “What we need right now at the Sam’s Club and the Shenandoah Joe locations, we need volunteers – they can show up and say, ‘I’m here to help’ or they can call me on my cell phone: 434-960-TOYS.”
Drop-off sites are operating from now through Monday, 7am to 7pm, at Sam’s Club Warehouse, Walmart and Shenandoah Joe’s Coffee.
